HELLO FOLKS,
Today I was reading about how the definition of beauty changed generation by generation. I was shocked to see there is too much acceptance in the 21st century from back in the 1900s. Today being imperfect is a new perfect. Japanese have a beautiful expression of saying that beauty is flawed.” wabi-sabi” is a word meaning finding beauty in imperfection like, a lotus flower, from blooming from deep mud below the surface turning out to be a beautiful flower and kept under the feet of goddess Laxmi. That is one major part of how I would define beauty as well. I feel that beauty is anything that has a pleasing effect on people. So, pretty much everything can look beautiful- the girl with the perfect figure, a dog’s eyes, a smile on your beloved’s face, kindness, resilience, sunrise, sunset, the wrinkles on my dad’s face, and so on.
The beauty of the term beauty itself is that it’s highly relative. It could change from person to person and might differ with time. There’s a good chance that my perception of beauty might also undergo a sea change as I evolve.
I do not go by the idea that only ‘inner beauty’ is a real beauty. There’s nothing wrong in admiring something pleasing to the eyes. That does not, however, justify the discrimination meted out to people based on looks. My argument is that if people can be praised for their inborn talent, then there should be no qualms about admiring a person for his/her looks, which also comes with birth.
To wind up, beauty to me is both ‘inner’ and ‘outer’ beauty since both have the potential to please my heart.
