This will be the 11th time in a row that PM Shri Narendra Modi is going to address the nation in the Independence Day speech. This will be the 78th Independence Day of the nation, where a speech will be addressed by the president. This has been a tradition followed since the independence of India.
How would the day roll out?
15th of August, 2024, will be celebrated as the 78th independence day of India. The event will be held in the Red Fort, involving a flag hoisting ceremony, immediately followed by a speech from the Indian president at 7:30 AM. The speech would usually state the achievementa of the past and envision the future ambitions of the country.
Every year, a different category of people would be called for the ceremony. This year 4000 guests of various categories shall be called of which
• 1,000 will be of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare category
• 600 of Youth Affairs
• 300 of Women and Child Development
• 300 of Panchayati Raj and Rural Development
• 300 of Tribal Affairs
• 200 of School Education and Literacy
• 200 from the Border Roads Organisation/Ministry of Defence
• 150 from Health and Family Welfare
• 150 from Sports
• 1,200 from the Niti Aayog category
What could be expected in the Independence day speech?
This time, the theme is likely to project the “Viksit Bharat” initiative for making India a developed country by 2047, which is 100 years of Indian Independence. The speech is expected to last anywhere between 60-90 minutes, based on the previous speeches.

The festivities at the Red Fort, to celebrate Independence Day, are brightened up with enchanting and scintillating cultural programs showcasing the country’s rich heritage and multifaceted culture. Colorful traditional dances, music, and delightful programs by school children and military bands form a part of the celebrations. They underline the message of unity amidst diversity that is the hallmark of India, with troupe representations from different states presenting their distinctive cultural expressions on the platform. Characterized by the nation, most of the historical events or progress are marked with folk dances, patriotic songs, and other theatrical displays. These cultural displays not only entertain the audience but also inspire patriotism in them.
