This post wants to show you these forgotten heroes and their big fights giving you a peek at how brave and strong they were.

The Santhal Uprising (1855-1856)

The Santhal Hool is also called the Santhal Rebellion, was a big war against the British rule in India by the Santhal tribe. Sidhu and Kanhu Murmu, who were brothers, led the Santhals. They fought back because the British East India Company treated them. The Santhals were angry about high taxes, moneylenders taking advantage of them, and losing their old lands.

The Santhals fought for more than a year even though they didn’t have good weapons. They showed amazing teamwork and bravery. The British beat them in the end, but the rebellion had a big effect. It made the British realize they needed to change things. This led to a new law in 1876 called the Santhal Parganas Tenancy Act.

The Bhils, a big tribal group in India, fought against many invaders for a long time. They used guerrilla tactics to fight the Mughals and the British. The Bhils wanted to protect their land.

Tantia Bhil was a famous Bhil leader. People called him India’s Robin Hood. He attacked British soldiers and rich landowners a lot. Tantia gave money to poor people. He kept fighting until 1889 when the British caught him.

The Gond people also fought back

The Gond tribe living in central India, built a big kingdom that fought hard against outsiders. They battled the Mughals and Marathas to keep their freedom.

> Chandrapur and Garha Mandla: Gonds in these areas fought as the Maratha Empire grew. Rani Durgavati, a famous Gond queen, led her soldiers with great courage. She became a symbol of fighting back and giving everything for her people.

The Munda Rebellion (1899-1900)

Birsa Munda, a charismatic leader, sparked the Munda Rebellion. This major uprising fought British rule and exploitative landlords called zamindars. Munda rallied his tribe in what’s now Jharkhand. He fought for their land rights and freedom from oppression.

> Religious and Political Awakening: Munda’s movement stood out. It mixed religious revival with a powerful political message. His ideas fired up the Mundas to demand their rights. This left a big mark on tribal politics in India.
